Our Staff
Dr. Susan Gaffney and her family moved to Angel Fire in the fall of 1996. Initially Dr. Gaffney provided veterinary services by making house calls until the Angel Fire Small Animal Hospital was completed in February of 1997.
Dr. Gaffney has 2 children, Lewis,a 13 year old boy, and Erin, a 10 year old girl. You may very well meet her husband, Tim, when visiting the boarding facility at their house or when he is helping out around the veterinary hospital.
Dr. Gaffney graduated from Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. Her first position after veterinary school was as an associate veterinarian in Tulsa, Oklahoma at a practice that saw a lot of birds and other exotic small animals in addition to dogs and cats. For the next 3 years, Dr. Gaffney attended to many parrots, macaws, and other birds as well as small exotic mammals, rabbits, guinea pigs "pocket pets".
After 3 years of working at the predominantly exotic animal clinic, Dr Gaffney moved to Woodland Animal Medical Center, a large multiple veterinarian practice with a few satellite clinics in Tulsa. She continued seeing exotic animals and also developed an interest in small animal dentistry. After several continuing education seminars and laboratories, Dr. Gaffney learned to perform root canals and many other specialized dental procedures on dogs and cats. She has been doing specialized dental procedures for 14 years now!
