After having the freedom of an empty kennel for so much of 2020 due to COVID, Dr. Gaffney and her husband have decided to permanently close the Vet Pet Resort. The kennel will be permanently closing on May 1, 2022. They look forward to the freedom they will have to camp and travel over weekends. There are other kennels that have opened since the Gaffney's started their kennel in 2000, so hopefully our clients won't be inconvenienced by this. Below is a list of some of the kennels in the area: 10,000 Wags Kennel - 575-751-9247 - www.10000wags.com Taos Canyon Kennel and Training Center - 575-758-4229 -www.taoscanyonkennel.com Pet Pals Dog Boarding Kennel - 575-224-4277 - eaglenestdogboarding.com
Angel Fire Small Animal Hospital offers a boarding facility located at Dr. Gaffney's residence.
Brochures are available at the veterinary hospital indicating directions to VET PET RESORT. (Also, see below for directions to kennel.)
We have 9 indoor runs for dogs. The runs are 4' by 8'. There are large windows and a sliding glass door that allows animals to have plenty of sunshine and a "room with a view." The View is of the Angel Fire ski mountain. The cat room has a 4-cage unit kitty condo. Each "condo" has a resting bench. When we are not running at full capacity we will open a floor and a side door and allow one cat to occupy 4 cages. The back of the cages are clear and up against a window so that the cats can see outside.
Dogs are walked and exercised two times a day for 10 to 15 minutes. Extra walks or "playtimes" can be purchased for $4.00 each. You can give us a special activity to do with your dog such as play ball or frisbee, brushing, go for a ride, etc. Cats can also have playtimes.
Boarding fees are $18.00 per night for dogs and $15.00 per night for cats. We do offer multiple pet discounts. Rates are charged by the night so whether you bring your pet at 9 a.m. or at 5 p.m. you will be charged for that night.
Check-in and Check-out times are 7 days a week between 7:30-10:00 a.m. and between 4:00-7:00 p.m. - BUT we need to note which time frame you will check-in/out on your reservation form. There are also times where we will have abbreviated hours and we will inform clients of these upon making reservations.
We adhere strictly to these check-in/check-out times; services outside of these hours will more than likely be refused.

Directions to the boarding facility:
From the blinking light intersection at Hwy 64 and Hwy 434 drive west on Hwy 64 about 1.5 miles. Turn right, or north, into the Taos Pines entrance, this is a dirt road. There is a small volunteer fire station at the entrance to Taos Pines. (If you are coming from Taos, the turn into Taos Pines will be after you go around the last curve, where the Elliott Barker Trail is coming down off of the Taos Pass.)
Drive exactly 1.1 miles to the Gaffney's driveway entrance. There is a sign that says, "Vet Pet Resort Boarding" at the entrance to their driveway on the right hand side. The driveway will take you down to the drop-of location. The house has a green roof and the boarding facility has a red roof. Give yourself about 15-20 minutes to drive to the kennel from Angel Fire and to fill out paperwork when you check your pet in. Depending on the time of year, the road could be muddy, slick and/or snow covered - so take your time. If there is snow we do recommend using a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Park in-between the house and the boarding facility. The Gaffney's will watch for you to arrive at your scheduled time, please honk your horn if no one comes out to meet you.
If you are having difficulty finding the facility, don't hesitate to call the office for directions. The number to reach Dr. Gaffney at home will be listed on the answering machine if you are checking in after office hours!
